A very warm welcome to the Andover Acupuncture Clinic
The Andover Acupuncture Clinic was founded by Maureen Phelps in 2008. Now well established, she treats a wide variety of people with an extensive range of health issues.
Having always been interested in health and medicine, Maureen developed a curiosity about acupuncture after receiving treatment in 2003. Her research into Eastern and Traditional medicine led her to investigate ancient forms of healing, and how traditional techniques can be combined with the Western approach. Armed with this knowledge, Maureen elected to train as an acupuncturist and received her Bachelor of Sciences in 2008.
Having earned her degree, Maureen decided to travel to China to observe how Chinese practitioners treat patients. This journey incorporated a period of study at Shanghai University, followed by practical work in hospitals and clinics throughout Shanghai.
Main areas of special interest
Fertility – after practicing for a number of years, and receiving many enquiries regarding acupuncture and conception, Maureen decided to give more focus to reproduction and women’s health. There are many issues surrounding all aspects of fertility, in both women and men.
In 2012 Maureen became affiliated with the prestigious Zita West Fertility Clinic, and joined the expanding network of practitioners using their skills to assist couples with conception. In 2019, she completed further training, gaining a Diploma in Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Fertility.
Muscular and skeletal conditions – these problems affect 25% of adults living in the UK; they have huge impacts on quality of life and are a primary cause of lost workdays. Muscular and skeletal problems and pain are one of the main reasons for consultations at the Andover Acupuncture Clinic, and Maureen has been treating these conditions since opening the practice.
Although acupuncture is a traditional medicine, treatment methods are constantly evolving, particularly in relation to the Western equivalent. In 2020, Maureen attended a 2-day course and learned new techniques encompassing a mix of acupuncture styles and the muscular and skeletal clinical approach.
Stress & Anxiety – everyone experiences a range of pressures from every-day life. When these become overwhelming, the result can be stress, anxiety, or both. The effects of these can impact negatively on sleep, mood, physical health, and general well-being. Specific symptoms can include insomnia, panic attacks, digestive issues, headaches etc.
Over the years Maureen has been able to help and calm patients’ anxiety and stress levels, improving sleep, alleviating panic and instilling a sense of calm and well-being.
